Europe, Americas and CIS Division
The Political Affairs (West) Division comprise three political desks, covering the work pertaining to Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations with countries in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Americas.
Europe: the Europe Desk oversees 13 Sri Lankan resident Missions in 12 countries. The Desk also deals with Sri Lanka’s Diplomatic Relations with 42 countries and is the focal point for two regional/multilateral bodies, namely the European Union and the Commonwealth.
CIS: In the CIS region Sri Lanka has only one resident Mission in Moscow while relations with the rest of the region (10 countries) are covered from Moscow, Tehran and Islamabad.
Americas: The Americas Desk oversees six Sri Lanka resident Missions in four countries. The Americas Desk also deals with Sri Lanka’s relations with 28 countries in that region.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Coordination and Overseeing of Resident Missions and Consulates of Sri Lanka in the Europe, Americas and CIS regions.
- Functioning as the focal point for two inter-governmental bodies namely the European Union and the Commonwealth.
- In the bilateral front, coordination of high level visits, both inward and outward, finalization of agreements, furthering trade and investments and promoting cultural ties.
- The Europe, Americas and CIS Division is currently headed by Actg. Director General Mrs. Himali A. Serasinghe.
